Why is America protesting gun violence without solutions? There have been pushes for reduced gun control, but it causes more pro-gun control sided individuals to argue their standpoint. Both sides use recent school shootings’ conditions as evidence to their argument. However, the proper research has never been funded by a private agency or by the government. As a result, the arguments for increasing or decreasing gun control have never had proper evidence to back them. The solution to solving gun control is funding more gun violence research. This will help because it will create evidence, remove confusion, and prompt state action. The lack of evidence causes a lack of relevant arguments. “There's a move to reverse a 22-year-old restriction on how the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention can fund gun-related research — which has essentially created a situation in which policymakers have very little up-to-date data about what causes gun violence or how it can be prevented or reduced.” Policymakers have no evidence or data about the issue of gun violence, and do not want to make an uninformed and ineffective solution. The research gives arguments the evidence to make effective policies. Psychiatry professor Jeffrey Swanson studies gun violence and mental health, but his studies are not titled with relevance to gun violence. “’It’s odd,’ Swanson said, ‘but if you’re trying to do policy-informed research, you run into the fact that there are elected officials who don’t want to know the answer.’” Some politicians are uninformed and do not make a stable argument.
