Gun violence has become a serious issue in the United States. In 2015, there were over thirty thousand deaths due to gun violence. There are currently many organizations, including the Brady Campaign and the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, trying to gain support to pass laws restricting the use of firearms. Thus far gun control organizations have been fairly unsuccessful. There are more civilian firearms within the United States than the population itself. Organizations, such as the National Rifle Association, have countered that the right to bear arms is a necessity simply due to the fact that it is a right designated in the Bill of Rights. The 2nd Amendment is clearly out of date, as it was written in order to ensure the protection of American colonists in the 18th century. In modern society, the right to bear arms is unnecessary, while the issue of gun violence remains very prevalent. Gun measures should be better controlled in order to save the lives of many.

Even though organizations, politicians, lobbyists, etc. have tried to make the process of obtaining guns harder, they have been countered by the conservative Congress and pro gun organizations, such as the National Rifle Association and Gun Owners of America. The NRA is able to ensure weak gun regulations by donating millions to political campaign contributions. Many conservatives believe that guns are a given right that cannot be taken away.
