As I was walking through club day, Model Congress caught my attention. The club runs just like an actual congress. There’s many debates and trips to congresses. After attending a few meetings, I plan to stay. Model Congress meets up Wednesdays in room --- at 3:15pm. The seniors run the club but have certain positions. The positions are General chair, Associate Delegate chair, Delegate chair, Agenda chair and Finance chair. Each chair is assigned to one senior and has its own job or responsibility. I think running the club like this is smart and organized especially since it’s a big club. About 20 new freshmen, including myself joined.The club is filled by 10th, 11th and 12th graders as well. After we sign in, we get to see the three topics we are going to be talking about in the meeting. The topics can be anything to sports to technology or simply about school. After the General Chair reads the discussions we vote to see which one we want to discuss first. At the last meeting we talked about if our parents should insert a microchip into their babies, if our parents should be able to follow our social media and is standardized test should be banned. This meeting got very interesting and many hands went up, wanting to be able to share their thoughts. It was interesting to see how people reasoned and backed up their opinions in the short time period they receive. Once the person sharing was done talking they would say ‘open’ meaning other members can object and make comments or ask questions. If a lot of members had strong feelings and wanted to share the meeting runs longer than usual. The chair people take that as a good sign. After a couple of months we take trips to congresses which are held in Long Island. The first to sign up are the first to serve. The first one is in December 4th and i'm looking forward to that, it seems so much
