Americans like their Social Security benefits quite a bit. Some Candidates have said to cut it. Social Security benefits are when someone is retired, disabled, or when someone die. “Can someone 80 years of age make it off 12,000 dollars on social security?” Bernie Sanders asked a crowd in Iowa January 25, 2016. There were several people that responded to his question. Some of them shared of their story of how hard and devastated it is not to be able to take care of home and their children. One of the persons was a young lady and she cried as shared with him and others how she work 2 to 3 jobs and still have to ask her parents for money sometimes. By Expanding Social Security he would give multi-millionaires a percentage of what to pay into Social Security. Sanders plan is to simply remove the payroll tax cap. This will require those with incomes of 250,000 or more to pay their fair share into the Social Security program. If the tax cap is removed the program would be able to pay full retirement benefits. Senior citizens who are below poverty line would be moved above poverty line. Republicans such as Chris Christie and Jeb Bush have threatened to cut Social Security or suggested raising the retirement age. They feel that American people should have control of their own money. They think that if Social Security is cut now that is will give the future generation time to have a plan for when they start working the poverty line.
Bernie Sander is helping all American is by having a new plan to help them and not harm them. Bernie Sanders is not being selfish with what he want to do with the Social Security program. Sanders wants what is best for all Americans. He is not thinking about himself, he is thinking about what is going to strengthen the country and what is going to make the people happy.
