Transgendered individuals existed for centuries, from the hijras in India to the Eunuchs in Rome. However, transgendered people were not recognized in the United States until the late 1800s. Since then the transgendered community has been fighting for their rights in a strictly binary sex gender system. Today, movements for transgender rights represent a change within the binary, sex gender system. The army, public restrooms, and the media are places where changes can be seen.

This issue mostly affected the younger transgender population in the education system by making them not comfortable in the gym shower or bathroom. The former president sought to change that by allowing transgendered individuals use the bathroom or shower room they identify with. Even Though, this showed a step towards change, the binary system still held up in most places. President Trump promised to protect the LGBT (Lesbian, gay, bi , transexual,) community during his campaign , however, the bathroom bills has passed. This bill left the decision up to states to decide if they should or should not stop individuals from using the bathroom of their choice. Since the passing of the bill, a solution has came up to create separate bathroom for transgender individuals. However, this solution reinforces a binary system. The public and schools were divided up on the issue. Some people were afraid and some were ok with letting transgendered people use the bathroom of their choice. For the adult trans community people thought criminals might take advantage of this. Some people thought men would dress up as a woman to see females in the bathroom and possibly assault them. However, this issue was due to the fact many individuals did not know the difference between sex and gender. A true transgender male believes he is a woman and act accordingly to
