Being able to serve in the military is probably one of the most rewarding honors a person can say they have done in their lifetime. For some soldiers either male or female this is a social issue they are dealing with because of their sexual orientation. Whether it be that the individual is gay, bisexual, lesbian, or transgendered being able to serve their country proudly is a social controversy they are being faced with. American’s as a whole are becoming more accepting of the LGBT community, but full acceptance is still shortcoming. When it comes to the U.S. military the attitudes are more conservative but still slowly growing towards acceptance.

In 2010 the federal courts ruled on the ban of the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy and stated that it was unconstitutional. Within reading the pro and con sides of the arguments I believe that LGBT individuals should be allowed to serve in the military. There is this notion that LGBT persons are these sex crazed animals who will try to have sex with everyone. This were some of the concerns with the heterosexuals serving. LGBT persons want nothing more than a straight person does. They just want to love and be open with what their sexual preference is. They are not going to try to perform sexual acts on others any more than a heterosexual person would try on another heterosexual
