This can be proven because students are required 181 school days a year and according to the “No Child Left Behind act” schools are required to have annual testing to determine our school systems are actually teaching them the proper topics (“No Child Left Behind”). The typical path to be followed is preschool then elementary school, middle school, and finally high school. When asked what the school systems should be accomplishing in our society, a few things come to mind. The core curriculum is there to teach students what drives them and motivates them to become successful in school. Secondary school’s job is to prepare us for what we wish to do next; whether it is college or maybe a job. High school is where students become more understanding of what it takes to be able to function in society. Secondary education is where it is determined if students are willing to take their own education to the next level or if kids are not motivated and pursue a job in the “real world”. To decide if kids are ready for the next level the education system will test their knowledge and understanding of core curriculum. Also, students will be challenged with the option of taking college level courses with the possibility of receiving a college credit if they pass the final test. These classes are too a big role in weaning out students who do not put in the energy and time to be successful. Those that take AP or IB classes already are setting themselves apart from students who may just go through the motions of school. However, most of these decisions as to what classes to take, how much effort to put in all of these are up to the students themselves. The school systems job is to supply them with the proper education and same opportunities as any other student there.
