Recommended: The effect of gun control
Gun control has been a controversial issue for years and numerous solutions have been proposed and enacted. The debate sparked after tragic civilian attacks, like school shootings. An example, is the tragedy in 1999 at Columbine High School. Two teens attacked the school, killing 13 people and wounding more than 20 others before killing themselves. Following this attack, numerous solutions have been argued and purposed.
Raging like a swollen river, the Gun Control debate has quickly taken center stage in our country. Swirling in a pandemonium of facts, fallacies, emotions, and lies, how can we pick through this issue from a Christian perspective? Even the Bible offers no direct answer. However, by wading with our knowledge of sinful nature into this river, a glimmer of light appears. Once imbedded on a firm foundation, we can view through the crystal lens of God’s Word and utilize the logic that He has given us to sort through the mud and find the nugget of truth.
We will not be silenced “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” These 27 words have meant a lot in the news lately. You see Facebook posts, tweet after tweet about this. I am not here to argue with you, but I feel like only one side of this topic is being discussed.
Repealing Gun Control Firearms are a pretty big deal. The Second Amendment has been debated for centuries. Many believe our forefathers had set this for militias and not for individual rights, but the other amendments are for individual’s rights. The right to bear arms in the Second Amendment was written by men who started our country by using their firearms against a government of tyranny.
School safety is an ongoing debate in America and the question of, are schools safe, will never go away but, what could be done to make it a less prominent or less talked about question. Some say that we need more law enforcement in schools, some say we should get rid of guns, and others may say that we should simply make it harder for the wrong kind of people to get guns. I feel that we should have to take a class (much like a hunting or drivers license) and a test annually in order to own guns. Many people would like a world where guns are completely banned or outlawed.
As gun violence has been plaguing the United States of America for a number of decades, causing mass shootings and unwanted deaths, it is not surprised that more than 100 million handguns are owned in America for protection (Kates & Mauser, 2007). To prevent the future generation from being a victim to gun violence, some suggests that they should be allowed to carry firearms on campus for self-defence. This essay is against the opinion of permitting students from carrying weapons to school regardless the advantages it might bring. This is because teenagers have yet to fully reach maturity, teenagers armed are seen as a threat to others and lack of training in handling firearms. One of the reasons to prevent students from carrying guns is the fear of misusing firearms.
Gun Control Think of all of the advantages people could have by owning and knowing how to use a gun. A gun could help people to survive on their own, to kill their own food, to protect their family, and they would not have to rely on anyone else to get them food. Too many people are dependent, but if everyone had a gun, knew how to correctly and safely use it everyone would be a whole lot more independent. If we have guns we can protect ourselves, family members, friends, and our other loved ones.
George Washington once said, “A free people ought not only to be armed, but disciplined.” He was correct, citizens have the right to bear arms under the second amendment, but must do so with responsibility. Guns have indeed changed dramatically in the past few hundred years, so have the American people. The definition of Gun Control is laws or policies that regulate the manufacture, sale, transfer, possession, modification, or use of firearms. The issue is when we start to blame the gun instead of the person, for the result of their actions.
Aren’t you tired of hearing on the news that someone has died behind a gun incident. Eighty eight point eight per one-hundred people or about two hundred seventy million guns which is highest total per capita number in the world. Twenty-two percent of Americans own one or more guns thirty percent men and twelve percent women. Gun control needs to be more improved in order to save lives. I think that they should be stricter because people think that laws do not need to be stricter because that means more trouble if someone tries to defend themselves.
Currently there have been multiple proposals to solve the issue of lack of gun control but most if seems to not work or come a bit too short. Such as the example I proposed earlier about Barack Obama making the assault rifle ban but I think he could have gone further and banned even more firearms so that the country can become safer. Congress has had other laws as well that were working at the time but took the law off for unknown reasons, Bob Adams stated “Congress allowed the 10-year ban on assault weapons to expire in September despite overwhelming public support for the law and a 50 percent drop in illegal use of the rapid-fire guns” (1). The question to ask here is why would they take down a law that was working for a good 10 years?
The date is February 16th, 2018. The world has only reached its 46th day of the year and yet we have already bore witness to over 30 mass shootings in the United States. While politicians and our own President refuse to accept the real problem with the situation, citizens across the USA are fighting to rid the undeserving of their deadly assault weapons. In a New York Times article titled "Mass Shootings Don 't Have To Be Inevitable", James Steinberg addresses questions we are left to ask when the tragedy strikes and we are desperate for answers. Why is destructive ammunition so easy to obtain?
Many in American society view guns as evil and harmful rather than as a safety net. The issue of gun control has been extremely troublesome in America for decades. Gun control is a strict set of laws that regulate the manufacture, sale, distribution, transfer, and possession of firearms by citizens of a country. Places like the United Kingdom, Singapore, and Japan have extremely strict gun laws. In places like the United States, France, and Italy they have less strict laws.
Gun control is and always will be a very disagreed issue in this country. There are those who believe that Americans should not own guns at all. They think our country would be better without them. Guns do not do the killing or injuring of the innocent bystanders.
Everyday, innocent people die a tragic death, with a deadly weapon called, the gun. This weapon comes in many forms, such as a pistol, shotgun, machine gun, and many more. The most commonly used amongst the many varieties, is the pistol. The pistol, is a basic weapon, and is regularly used in shootings. Unfortunately, the these guns are everywhere, and you never know when you might get shot, by this lethal weapon.
Gun Control Gun control has become a polarizing and controversial issue around the globe. There have been many reported issues of mass shootings both in schools and in the public, making it a hot button issue. Proponents argue that, if the government strictly controls the ownership of guns, such tragedies can be prevented. Most Americans have an obsession with guns because the law allows them to do so. Therefore, they are always ready to scoff at anyone trying to control gun ownership.
