Today I was asked to write an essay on whether or not students should have recess. I think that instead of just saying yes like most of the class, I’ll try to give reasons as to why students should not have recess. First off, recess is not required. Students do not need to go outside for 30-45 minutes a day to learn what to do to succeed in life. Second, it prepares students for later in school. You’re not given recess in middle school onward, so no recess makes sure students don’t feel deprived or angry that recess is gone. Third, teachers can survive with no recess. I was told by my teacher that recesses are the breaks when teachers are allowed to use the restroom and other things, but teachers are given 35 minutes of a break for lunch. As such, I think that they already get their break. If that doesn’t work, then perhaps a system should be put in place to make sure the teachers are okay. School teachers above 6th grade don’t have any problems, so let’s replicate what they do. On the flipside, I can’t just give what I think about the topic. I need to provide some evidence. First, according to FairTest, teachers will spend about 30 minutes of learning time to gain the frankly limited benefits of having recess. Also, …show more content…
I have given reasons such as the fact that students don’t need recess, the fact that it prepares them for later on in Middle school and up with a lack of recess, and that teachers can also last without a break. Some sources that give points against recess are EduGuide, FairTest, and DailyFocus providing a few points. While said points were scarce, they is not worth ignoring and are the lifeline of my argument. I also once again recommend reading said articles yourself to make sure you see this topic from all angles before deciding how you feel about it. It is important to be educated in all sides of an argument. That is all I have to say, and I bid you
