The Women of Sudan There was once a time when women had no rights. This did not just happen in America; this happened all over the world. Women was treated poorly. They were treated as if they were property and can be sold off to make someones life much better. As time progresses, women were able to gain more freedom and have more human like qualities. In this current year, many well developed countries learned to treat women better. To make women understand that they are equal to men and deserve the same amount of rights. Women in developed countries still have some trouble but it is much better then before. Certain low developing places like Sudan, still struggle with women and their rights. These marriages are not by choice. Majority of the time, parents set up these marriages so that the rest of the family can eat and survive. Theses marriages are highly dangerous and uncivil towards children. Some of these girls get married as young as the age of 9 and their spouse is sometimes over the age of 30. These girls have to suffer and learn how to please their husband at a young age. Some of these girls end up having children and die from child birth. Currently South Sudan has the highest maternal mortality rate. “South Sudan currently has the highest maternal mortality rate in the world, approximately 2,054 maternal deaths for every 100,000 live births”(Rullo). These numbers seem to be increasing instead of decreasing. Many of these children complain before they are to be married off, but are brutally beaten by their father if they refused to get married. This will continue on until the girl learns to keep her opinion about the marriage to herself. She doesn't have accept, but she does have to go along with
