Gun control is a widely-debated topic throughout politics. Our recent presidential election proved to show the controversy about gun control. For so long politicians have been trying to repeal the second amendment of the constitution by making stricter gun laws. The reason behind there doing is because they believe that if they make it harder for people to own guns than it will decrease crime and murder rates. There are already plenty of laws in place to control guns. Although gun control advocates believe there should be gun control to reduce crime, guns should not be controlled by law because it will violate the second amendment of the constitution, more guns have reduced crime and not less guns, and gun control goes against one’s natural right to defend themselves. Self-defense is an instinct that humans have. People every day face the challenge of defending their family and selves against their surroundings and criminals. With more gun control, it will take one’s ability to defend themselves away. Natural law theorists such as William Blackstone, who said, "Self-defense, therefore as it is justly called the primary law of nature, so it is not, neither can it be in fact, taken away by the law of society." Blackstone’s quote explains how gun control can violate one’s natural right to self-defense by taking away their means of self-defense. Another fact put out by the NRA-ILA states “ ‘Hot burglaries,’ in which criminals invade homes while home dwellers are present, are much less common in the United States, where many people have guns.” The use of guns for self-defense is very common in the United States and with the enforced gun control it will make it harder for people to defend themselves against criminals and
