Arguments Against Standardized Testing

Standardized testing has been a problem that popped up a few years ago. Its causes many conflicts between schools and the state. It’s useful in some ways and in others ways it causes more problems. Standardized tests have the same questions under the same conditions for all the test takers. They base the teachers teaching skills on how well the students does on the tests. While some say the tests are objective and fair in measuring students achievement, others claim otherwise, that their use promotes a narrow curriculum and drill-like teaching to the test. Some people are against standardized testing because it causes too much stress on the student, others agree with it because it helps teachers track the child’s development but, I think standardized testing should be abolished. …show more content…

There are many reasons people agree with standardized testing. Standardized testing is a reliable method of measuring student achievement. It focuses on the basic skills teachers are suppose to teach about and students are suppose to learn. All students are measures against the same narrow, irrelevant set of standards to see how the student learn the common core information. Many schools approve of standardized testing because it tells them what the teachers need to teach to the students. Teachers are given a guidance on what the students are suppose to learn, and what they are suppose to teach to get the child ready for the next grade. Standardized testing can keep students quiet for up to 90 mins and give teachers time to catch up on whatever they were behind on. Students learn to concentrate and focus on their work and not be distracted by others. Standardized testing forces essential content and skills to be learned.
