Theme Essay By Christopher Carlton In all of our friendships, there's something hidden, something that no one knows is there. Something that no one can see but something that everyone can feel. It's a feeling, it's called love. In “Aristotle and Dante: Discover the Secrets of The Universe'', we follow the lives of two teenagers, Aristotle (Ari for short) and Dante. As the book gets deeper, so does Ari and Dantes's friendship. As their relationship grows, we start to see more and more struggles in their life. But throughout the book, one thing is consistent, their friendship. As the plot of the book thickens, Ari and Dante are forced to test their relationship. In part 3 of “Aristotle and Dante: Discover the Secrets of The Universe”, Ari is hanging out with Gina and Susie. Ari tells the reader, “I listened to Gina and Susie talk and I thought it was nice that they knew how to talk and how to laugh and how to be in the world.” p. 188. By him saying this, it shows that Ari thinks a friendship is where two people can be open and have no problem talking to each other. He thinks a friendship has open communication. The author implies here that this makes Ari miss Dante even more than ever and that realizes that Dante and him have a strong relationship. Later in the book Dante tells Ari that when he is kissing Daniel he is really kissing Ari in his head. The theme of friendship shows up because Dante opens up to Ari proving his trust in him. Even though Dante is still talking about how he wishes he and Ari were more than friends, it still strengthens their relationship more than they can know, which makes them more than just your average friends, they are great …show more content…

In part 4 of Aristotle and Dante, Ari is talking to the reader when he says, “And I needed us to be all right. And he needed us to be all right too. And so we were.” pg. 207. In this quote, Ari tells the reader that both he and Dante needed their friendship to be alright. Basically, he and Dante arguing left a hole in his heart. A whole that only love can fill. The kind of love that is found in friendships. We see this when in part 6, Ari opens up to Dante and admits he is scared of him. He is scared of Dante because Dante is his first love. All friendships have a hidden love that you can’t see, but you can feel it. It's a kind of love that keeps you in that person's life. True friendships last forever, they can never get separated. When Dante asks Ari, “Will we be friends? When I come back from Chicago?” pg. 120. Dante doesn’t mean this in a confident way, he says this with fear. Fear of losing his best friend, his only friend, his true friend. He knows losing Ari would be a lifetime of loneliness. Even when he is in Chicago he admits to thinking of Ari almost every day. True friends can’t be broken apart, as long their friendship is built on love, it will last
