Army Leadership Philosophy Statement

As I move into my fifth year in the Army, I find it interesting to think about my “leadership philosophy.” I honestly cannot recall a time when I have seriously sat down and analyzed my style. Hopefully that is not an indication of my level of leadership! I find it interesting because the assignment can be taken as a reflection to truly look at yourself and see how you handle things. A lot of times in the Army, we are struggling just to get through the current obstacle in order to move on to the next, and as long as nothing is going wrong, we never take the time to slow down and evaluate our state of affairs. I assume that their answers to an assignment of this sort would be more geared toward the leaderships attributes to which they would wish to exude, that of even their mentors’ styles, or maybe whatever they think will get them a passing grade. I believe however, that even given my relatively few years in service, I have been in leadership positions since the start. I arrived to Basic Training in June of 2012, where I was immediately placed into a leadership role, and held it until the end of the class. I was awarded the Soldier Leader of the Cycle as selected by my peers and instructors. When I moved on to Advanced Individual Training, I held dual leadership positions as class leader and squad leader, which eventually turned into student platoon sergeant, earning Soldier of the Month and Fort Huachuca's STRAC award simultaneously. At my first duty station, I took on leadership roles right away. As a specialist I was a team leader in the HUMINT platoon, and then moved to be a squad leader in the Strategic Debriefing Platoon, both within C
