Alma Thomas began her teaching career in 1924, in Washington D.C. schools. She taught over for 35 years teaching art in many D.C. schools. Not only did she teach art, she was very devoted to her students. Alma organized art clubs, lectures, and also student’s exhibition for them. Teaching allowed Alma to support herself while pursuing her own painting part time.
If you asked me two years ago when I was finishing Ohio State’s Bachelor of Art Education program if I would be going back to graduate school I would have said that I hadn’t even thought about it. My undergraduate degree was all I really needed to fulfill my lifelong dream of being an art teacher, so why go back to school? Well, to my dismay, here I am at the tail end of my second year of teaching doing just that. While it is true that my acquired degree has allowed me to pursue my dream, I find myself even more passionate and in love with this field than ever before and I want to learn more.

The role of an educator is not only to teach the many children that come through our classrooms, it is essential to form relationships with students that makes them feel like they matter and that goes above and beyond a teacher's job. It is essential for children to feel valuable, appreciated and motivated in the early stages of their education, the reason why I am pursuing a Masters of Arts in Teaching for an Elementary level academic setting. Receiving a Bachelor’s of Arts in Education Sciences at the University of California Irvine and the leadership roles I have undertaken in my employment has prepared me to begin and undertake a Masters of Arts in Teaching
I am currently organizing and teaching free weekend workshops at The College of Wooster where I share my professional experiences with students such as photographing artwork, alternative photographic and printmaking processes, and how to create and maintain an online artistic presence through website construction and social media. I also have gained valuable experience as the curator of the student art gallery and supervising the installment of the senior thesis exhibitions. Furthermore, as a graduate student, I assisted in the maintenance of the print studio, mentored international students in the photography studio, administered the undergraduate print organization, and proposed and managed a communal studio print night where undergraduates could come assist me with printing and vice versa. I am committed to the institutions where I teach and I believe in keeping academic course work relevant to contemporary trends in the arts and listening to peers to create
By successfully gaining a bachelors degree in sculpture I will be able to further my studies to become an art therapist, where I can help people like myself, or anyone who has an ailment find peace and focus through the expression of how they feel. Furthermore, I will be able to show those who feel stuck or handicapped a way to be free of negative self image but putting it on paper and turning something dark into a beacon of beauty and self appreciation. Additionally, I could help spread awareness for both mental and physical ailments through my work, and the work of those I teach, to further the message that while some may only percieve the illness of an individual there is always more to someone than just that; they are a mother, a daughter,
I applied for the Applied Psychology major in Steinhardt School. I am interested in the Applied Psychology programs in NYU because it could well-prepared me for pursuing a master degree in Art Therapy. The programs allow me not only to learn about the psychological theories but also to understand the working environments in the research and real-world settings through a sequence of seminars and fieldwork internships. The three-semester fieldwork activities can provide me with the opportunities to earn the real-world experience in schools, hospitals, and youth centers, and to develop skills for future intended career. I am particularly interested in Counseling, Art Therapy, and Occupational Therapy.
During my job shadow with Ms. Eileen Chalupa on Doane’s Campus I learned how to be creative, come up with my own style of graphic designing, and most importantly to never give up or lose hope on a project that someone has asked for. Her job is the head graphic designer at Doane University. Some questions that I asked her during the job shadow were what are some positive aspects and negative aspects of working as a graphic designer, are the hours flexible for the job and another question I asked was what training did she do to get ready for this type of work and if it required any type of education to complete. One of the reasons she chose this career was because her mother went through the desktop publishing program at Southeast Community
Personal Statement I come from a large family with relatives from a little ranch in Chihuahua, Mexico. Many of which have never made it past grade school. Mainly due to their mother, my grandma, she had fallen very ill. Due to her condition and lack of money my aunts and uncles dropped out of school to work and help pay for her medication and medical expenses. The older siblings had to take care of the younger siblings.
Personal Statement for NQT Year I have been lucky enough to have been taught by some truly inspirational teachers and am aware of the effect they have had on my life and the choices I have made subsequently. My own passion for working with young children extends from my desire to emulate these role models and perform the same inspirational function in the lives of my students. I have always enjoyed being around young people and have supplemented my interests in primary teaching with as much work experience as possible. I completed my PGCE Education course and qualified in 2006.
Going forward a liberal arts education will be key for me to attain my goals. Specifically a Hollins liberal arts education. I am interested in pursuing pre-law, creative writing, art, and equine studies. At a typical technical based studies program I would be unable to study and learn what I 'm passionate about. It has been said that if you choose a job you love you will never have to work another day, and I fully intend to live my life with zeal doing what I love and am truly passionate about, and a liberal arts education will help me achieve that.
STATEMENT OF GRANT PURPOSE Stephen Hill, Spain, English Teaching Assistant I wish to undertake an English Teaching Assistant opportunity in Spain to peruse my passion for teaching and training. With the knowledge and experience I will gain from teaching in Spain, I plan to look for employment opportunities within the U.S. state department. Opportunities that would make use of my knowledge and experience with Spain would be of particular interest to me. I have been complimented on my patience and ability to explain concepts in different ways that accommodate multiple learning styles.
It is important to study something in school that you enjoy but that is also useful in the real world. I have always been asked, “what's your major?”. I would answer art history and always got a response like, “what are you going to do with that?”. Most parents and students don’t feel that there is a good foundation from learning Art History. It is often heard from high school and college students (influenced by their parents) that to succeed you must major in science, technology, engineering, or business.
Errors are also known to take place due to failure in decision making. Slips and lapses, error due to action and memory are defined as failure to carry out proper action connected with decision making to achieve the objective of the task. As a human all of us tend to make mistake and mistake is define as failure in judgemental. I do realize that slips, lapses and mistake had occurred in my practice area. According to Thompson & Dowding, (2009), slips, lapses and mistake work at different level of thinking.
How does the growth of technology affects how art is being presented? Art, art has always been here ever since the creation of the Universe (well maybe I over exaggerated a bit). It has been here with us humans ever since The Stone Age. Almost anything can be presented as a form of art, from the painting of Mona Lisa, to movies, to video games, and even to how a person organize his room, all of these can be qualified as forms of art.
