The article was found using OneSearch via the UNF Library website with the key phrase “parental involvement in education.” This particular study was chosen to analyze because the authors researched parental involvement in different socioeconomic classes across America, specific to high school students. In my very limited readings on the topic it seems that many articles focus on parental involvement during the elementary years with less research during the high school years.

The racial/ethnic makeup of the school and the socioeconomic status of the families must be taken into consideration when deciding how to reach out to parents. Adapting the outreach approach to meet the needs of the parents will lead to more successful involvement. Sira Park is a doctoral candidate at the School of Education at the University of California, Berkeley, and Susan D. Holloway is a Professor in the Graduate School of Education of University of California, Berkeley. Due to the association of this study with a large university, it is assumed this study was approved by an IRB before being implemented. This assumption includes meeting rigorous ethical standards. If I could meet the authors of this study I would like to discuss how geography was taken in to consideration of the sample. For example, a lower socioeconomic White family of the Appalachian Mountains are going to have different needs and expectations from a lower socioeconomic White family of New Orleans.
