Purpose
The purpose of this experiment is to find information and explore similarities about eight compounds- NaCl (Salt), Sugar, Paraffin Wax, Acetylsalicylic Acid (Aspirin), Calcium Chloride (deicer), Ascorbic Acid, Cornstarch, Epsom Salt, all through six tests- physical appearance, hardness, conductivity as a solid, solubility in water, conductivity as a liquid or solution, and melting point.

Hypotheses
If we test physical appearance then all compounds will be white and somewhat transparent. Sugar and salt will be composed of small grains. Deicer, Cornstarch, Vitamin C, and Aspirin will be all be in a powder like form. Paraffin Wax will have a yellowish tint to it and will appear to be shredded. This is because based on prior knowledge this is what the compounds look like. If testing hardness then, on a scale of hard to soft, the compounds of salt, sugar, aspirin, and epsom salt will be hard. This is because based on prior knowledge these compounds Using the same scale, Paraffin Wax, Vitamin C, …show more content…

-This hypothesis was almost correct, but not entirely. Deicer is conductive as a solid, based on results, the others as predicted are not conductive.

If we test conductivity as a liquid or solution then salt, sugar, epsom salt, and aspirin will be conductive as a solution, because these compounds when mixed with liquid will react to make energy. Paraffin wax, Deicer, Vitamin C, nor Cornstarch will be conductive, because these compounds based on prior knowledge of appearance, being power-like texture, they are too soft to hold a charge.- I am rejecting my hypothesis, because all of the compounds are conductive as a liquid or solution. The water must give them enough charge in order to give them conductivity. This is not what I expected going into the
