In a relationship communication is a very important thing to practice. For example, Buffy really likes Riley and vice versa but they hesitate to tell each other how they feel. Another example that is shown in this episode is when Anya complains to Xander because he does not show how he feels towards her. Communication is very important in this episode because the whole town lost their voice therefore making it difficult for them to talk to each other. That was a problem because in order to defeat the monster and get there voice backs they had to scream, which is a form of communication. Also, at the beginning of the episode Dr. Maggie is giving a lecture about the importance of communication. Buffy tells Willow about the dream she had with Riley kissing her. Buffy tells Willow, whenever her and Riley are together nothing ever happens and they end up getting nervous. Not only do they keep their thoughts to each other but, they also have secrets which they keep from each other. When they talk they get nervous because they are scared they might spill about their second life. Buffy really wants to tell Riley so she can get it out of the way and not have any secrets. Riley tells his friend as well, that he does not want to keep the secret from Buffy. At the end of the episode both, Riley and Buffy, end up finding out that they are not who they say they are. They encounter each other while fighting the monsters and see that double life they kept from each other. At the end, Riley and Buffy have to talk about it but, it would’ve been easy if they just told each other in the first place about that
