Assessment Of Current Status Of Uniforms In East Lyme High School

Introduction

As a student from China, in the past eleven years, I get used to the school live with uniform every day. After starting to study in East Lyme High School, I’ve experienced the dress code policy in US. In my opinion, it’s still necessary for East Lyme’s schools to require the students to wear uniform at school. Since it can help them more focus on academic and relations with other students rather than on their look. Also students wearing uniforms can help reduce the number of discipline problems including dress code violations, fighting, and gang-related activities. Moreover, dress code doesn’t seem to be as effective as school uniform does.

Assessment of current status of recommending school uniforms

First of all, having school

This is so as not all students can keep up with the latest trends in fashion. So having school uniform can prevent the situation that a student becomes the subject of ridicule and mockery obviously because not wearing fashion and can’t fit in others, which can badly affect his or her self-esteem and can give rise to many insecurities. School uniform can not only prevent this kind of situation, but can also promotes effective learning for all students. Students’ concentration will be focused more on their education rather than their wardrobes. If students are allowed to wear civilian clothes, they will be more eager, concerned and excited on what clothes to wear to make them stand out at school. This will also distract their learning process for their minds will be occupied with the thought of whether their opposite sex will admire the way they dress up. Thus, school uniform is important for it creates an effective learning

Some of them claim that school uniform can actually increase the incidence of bullying, based on a 1999 study conducted by experts from Texas Southern University showed that bullying incidents increased by as much as 12%, after the implementation of mandatory uniform wearing. However, this idea can be easily apposing by the list of data which are more detail and happen in more area.

There also an appose idea claim that student’s transition towards adulthood can be hindered with uniforms. Since it is mandatory, they are not given the chance to decide for themselves, which is one of the hallmarks of adulthood. However, wearing of school uniforms can actually prepare students for their future career. For example, if they get employed in big companies, naturally they have to wear corporate and formal attires. With this, it will be easy for them to adjust since they are used to wear formal uniforms when they were in school.

Never the less, some disagree idea even claim that requiring students to wear uniform is inherently violating the freedom of students to express themselves, which also against the constitution. However, the people suggest this idea might had ignored the most important issues, that is, instead of expressing themselves by clothing, the main purpose for the students attending school is to study. So this appose idea is also not reasonable
