For focus student 1 I would adapt the learning goal by having this student use symbols and attempt purposeful symbols to solve the given word problem. I will give this student a more difficult word problem that includes a missing add in. I want this student to be pushed a little farther than what he is comfortable with because I believe this student is ready to attempt solving word problems using purposeful symbols.
I will adapt my second focus students learning goal so that she is to use a word problem with smaller numbers. This student is going to be instructed to attempt to accurately use symbols to solve this word problem. I will also have this student use yellow and red blocks to help her solve this problem more accurately. This will help give her a better visual of what the problem is asking her to do.

I believe this helped facilitate students learning because it assured that each student was able to visually see how to solve the problem. Using the smart board and the anchor chart that list each strategy and how to use the strategy also provided an excellent visual and resource for students to refer back to during their partner work.
