Public health plays a significant role in protecting and improving the health of the general population. Cameron Page’s article “They Paved Paradise And Put Up A Parking Lot” emphasizes the role the general public plays in defining public health in the United States. The title of the article addresses the importance of city parks and open spaces. The title highlights a need to protect urban green space, a so called “paradise”, from being paved into parking lots and constructed into city buildings. After I listened to Majora Carter 's passionate speech, I learn that we must work together as a community to improve the quality of our surrounding environment. Asthma has a significant impact on society, affecting over 6 million children under the age of 18 in the United States alone. Ross starts the construction of her credibility with personal facts and concrete sources, showing convincing facts and statistics, and beautifully implementing emotional appeals with pictures. Throughout the article, Ross does an astounding job with reaching into the emotions of the reader even more so towards the end of the article by mixing emotional appeal with stone cold statistics. I asked a senior youth organizer if I could be a group leader in guiding young people during one of UPROSE’s Toxic Tours through Sunset Park, explaining the environmental burdens in the community and how they affect us. As we walked along Third Avenue, I talked about the 275,000 vehicles that pass over the Gowanus Expressway each day releasing toxins like carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide and particulate matter 2.5 causing people who live in Sunset Park to develop serious illnesses such as heart disease, lung disease, upper respiratory diseases and cancer. The elevated expressway paired with a very congested 4th avenue pose a great threat to those residing in between. In fact, I learned of a woman who lived on 23rd Street between these avenues who developed bronchitis after only living in the house for 5 years. There have been studies that show a correlation between environmentally burdened communities, typically low income, and levels of upper respiratory diseases.
When we are working in barns I am around bugs and dust in there too, so now I have a good question to ask my doctor when I see him next. When I read that you can play sports with asthma I thought what if the asthma you have is really bad and you can coughs a lot over it, can you still play? So as I said earlier Flowers for Algernon started this research and I am glad it did because I really liked it. So if I or someone I know get asthma I will be really happy about doing this research because I know how to handle it.

The city of Long Beach in California has a long-standing history of air pollution, which has contributed to adverse health effects and environmental degradation. As one of the largest and busiest ports in the United States, Long Beach faces unique challenges in addressing air quality concerns. In recent years, significant efforts have been made to reduce pollution levels and improve the air quality in the region. Despite being a coastal city with the potential for ocean breezes to improve air quality, the people of Long Beach as a whole should promote sustainable transportation options and encourage the government to monitor harbor business pollution in order to reduce air pollution.
Pneumonia and asthma are two kinds of diseases that affect the airways in the lungs. Although both of them are different, they have some common denominators in the cause, symptoms, and the possibility of treating the inflammation at home. Both pneumonia and asthma make the air sacs in the lungs become tighten or blocked by an inflammation. For example, a person can obtain pneumonia or make asthma become worse after getting any upper respiratory infection such as flu or cold. Some symptoms of pneumonia and asthma are similar to each other such as chest pain, coughing, wheezing, and difficulty in breathing.
