I am passionate about solving the issue of more sustainable infrastructure and making the build environment a healthier and more environmentally friendly place to live. I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, which is now famous for its traffic, as well as the Falcon’s historic Super Bowl error. When I was younger, the traffic was not as bad as it currently is now. Rush hour was like any other city of its size, with moderate congestion and some delays. However, as the city grew during the and early 2000’s the traffic soon became legendary. There are numerous environmental effects caused by the traffic including; air pollution though tailpipe emissions, noise pollution from horns and car engines, as well as pollution due to dripping fluid such as oil, transmission fluid, power steering fluid etc. One of the main reasons for the drastic …show more content…

I would have Atlanta expand the current transportation system M.A.R.T.A (Metro Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority), to include the surrounding counties that ay not include the geographical area of Atlanta, but that do have many people commuting into the city for work and school. Everyday when I commute to Emory University, it takes me an hour to go approximately 12 miles. This is an issue because of the lack of public transportation. The nearest train station to my house is halfway to the school, which takes a little under 30 minutes to reach. In addition, there isn’t a train stop at Emory University, the nearby Center for Disease Control (CDC), or the surrounding businesses. Busses are not a viable option to commute because they run into the same issue of traffic that cars face during rush hour and they often require multiple transfers. Some people, myself included, prefer to drive because if we must sit in traffic for an hour, we might as well do it in the comfort of our own
