I plan to work with either work with survivors of domestic abuse or sexual assault or specifically with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Regardless of where I end up I want to empower, encourage, and support my clients, especially my women clients, where ever I go. I want to work with domestic abuse and sexual assault survivors because for one, it is a rewarding field which will keep me challenged, alert and will allow me to grow every day. I would also enjoy working with people with ASDs, specifically children, with the disorder. I would potentially want to work with this group because my nephew was diagnosed with Asperbergers a few years ago and I have seen the need and support that children with ASDs need and I have also seen how hard it was for …show more content…

I want to essentially change the system that we live in and bring equal opportunities to all regardless of disabilities, race, socioeconomic means, and any other mean that marginalizes and oppresses people, and leave the system better than I entered it. Furthermore, my field placement will prepare me to fight these battles by showing me how seasoned professional do these things every day. My placement will also help me prepare to do these things by giving me plausible skills-real life experience that I can practice; rather than just reading the skills in a text book and hoping that I can make my way through a difficult situation. Mostly, I hope my field placement will provide me experience with the "social" side of social work-the people. In this toolbox are tools that will allow me to flourish and grow in my field education. In this toolbox are tools such as self-determination which I will be able to observe and hopefully use while in field, rather than just theoretically discuss self-determination. I also believe that the Social Work department has taught me skills which I can transfer over into my field education such as eco-maps and genograms, which I hope to be able to use in field placement to be able to see the agency's clients' social environments. What I believe that program has best provided me with is a safe and enduring place to discover "who I am"; meaning it has allowed me to develop and define what exactly my worldview is and also how to deal with situations where a client's worldview is challenged and questioned by mine own., which will benefit me in field because I will know my stances on difficult topics and how to ensure that I do not intentionally mislead a client due to my personal
