In my English class, we are subjected to annotate articles that are based on writing styles that we have been learning on this past month. Many of these articles gives us tips on how to formally plan out our ideas, write a rough draft, revise it and then finish thoroughly with our final draft. I do remember from high school that we had to annotate many articles that regarded writing styles and writing strategies. It was very helpful that I learned this material in high school because it starting to reflect in my college career. Our annotation process in high school was very critical, so the material I am learning now is much easier than high school was. I am always be open to learning new strategies because they will help you become a better writer. As I read most of the articles, it gave me a better understanding on how to become a better writer and annotator when reading articles. One specific article that caught my mind was the “Banking Concept of Education” by Freire Paulo. The reason for writing an article like this is pretty simple address the problems in the community’s educational system. He sees that there is a problem with the way that students are taught and does not agree with it; he wants to change it because the students are not interested, or at least seem like they are not interested. Why must students sit in class and not say anything? He sees the current system and refers to it as the “banking concept” and doesn’t like it. We were basically asked to treat reading and writing as a conversation. When I heard about this I was confused at first because I was wondering how were we going to treat reading and writing as a conversation? I was thinking to myself that this strategy was impossible to do. Before we were taught this task we read an article explaining how this was possible for students. So I sat here wondering if we ever learned about this in highschool, but I never remembered learning about this at all. In my college english class we read this article called “Reading and Writing as a Conversation” by John Bean. Bean explains that using a conversational style of learning could be helpful when reading or writing a specific piece. Over the past years, literacy has become more rigor for students to learn that is making them lose focus on their reading and writing. Bazerman asserts that, “The lack of attention to this essential bond of literacy results in part from the many disciplinary divorces in language studies over the last half century.” The problem with this is that teachers are forced to teach students in this type of learning style but does not understand the amount of rigor work that comes along with it. Bazerman mentions that a conversational type of essay would bring out certain elements in students writing to cause less difficulty. If you treat your writing as a conversation
