The original Barbie Doll that was released in 1959 showed a lot of negative things toward the female body. Barbie has set a bad influence to little girls and boys by making anorexia a fashion trend. The doll’s tight fitting clothes and flawless face teaches kids that you have to look a certain way to be good looking. She has stereotypical occupations that fits the criteria of her image. When barbie works at the different occupations her uniform to match the job is feminized. Barbie is a bad role model to kids because of her fashion sense, eating habits and her feminine jobs.

The clothes that are put out for Barbie to wear are inappropriate and provocative. She wears tight fitting outfits and rarely wears a pair of pants in her outfit. When Barbie came out with gender neutral jobs they still somehow got feminized to fit her. Brittney Smith said, “When Barbie did carers like being an astronaut, a computer engineer, soldier, doctor or News Reporter they were still more targeted to the female side. They feminized barbie by changing the standard apparel, like wearing skirts for all the jobs, tighter clothes, high heels, pink and other female oriented clothes.”. Another example of Barbie being feminized is when she did careers such as a doctor, teacher or architect. She is shown as a “nerd”. The original Barbie has set a bad example to kids for years. Everything she does teaches little kids a bad lifestyle. She makes kids think it is okay to hate your body and it is okay to do harmful things to it. Barbie makes children comfortable with the way the were born. Everything she is associated with is sexist towards females.
