The Battle of Britain is the official name given to the Second World War air campaign waged by the German Air Force against the United Kingdom. The war began on the 10th of July, 1940 and concluded on the 31st of October. German and British air forces fought in the skies over the United Kingdom, locked in the largest sustained bombing campaign. This battle is known for the largest and greatest air combat during World War II. The battle began when the Luftwaffe, the German Air Force, endeavoured to gain control over the Straits of Dover. The aim of the Luftwaffe was to entice the Royal Air Force out for a full-scale battle (britannica.com, 2015).
Firstly, apart from the two main countries Britain and German, there were many allies initiated during the war. Fighting with Britain were Southern Rhodesia, Australia , New Zealand , South Africa , Ireland , Canada , Jamaica , Sri Lanka and many more. Many European countries occupied by Nazi Germany, including Poland , Belgium ,Czechoslovakia , France, withdrew themselves and joined the British to fight against Germany. Then, United States, a country who was remaining neutral, had numerous volunteers who made up the "Eagle Squadron" and fought with the British. The Axis powers at the time of the war were the Italy, together they fought in air force combat with German against Britain.
