“In 100 years, the tank has come a long way”(“Top 10 Most Advanced Main Battle Tanks In The World”). Tanks have been used in militaries across the world for a long time. The tank was first created in World War 1, after a few new inventions. When World War 2 started, the tank was greatly improved. The tank has continued to be used and improved all the way up to the modern day. The tank has evolved a great deal over the years, from it’s creation in World War 1 to World War 2 and the modern day.

These are the key people who led to the creation of the tank. The name lanship was derived from the idea that what would latter go on to become the tank was seen as an extension of sea-going warships. This is why it’s called the Landships Committee. The Landships Committee, who worked with Swinton, then went ahead with the design of the weapon. It’s codename was tank because it resembled the shell of water carriers. This is why it’s called a tank. The first tank they created was called ‘Little Willie’. It weighed 14 tons and had 12 foot long track frames. At first the tank couldn’t cross trenches but this was later fixed by Swinton. The first combat tank was ready in January 1916. Lloyd George, the British Minister of Munitions, then ordered the heavy production of the Mark 1 tank model. World War 1 may have been when the tank was created but World War 2 is when the tank truly became a powerful military weapon(Duffy, Michael).
The tank evolved a lot in World War 2 and World War 2 is when the tank truly became a main military weapon. “While World War 1 was the birth of the tank, World War 2 saw their true coming of age”(Cooper, C). One tank of World War 2 was the Soviet T-34. The T-34 is widely considered the best all-round tank of World War 2. The T-34 was tough, maneuverable, and fast. The Sherman had a 75mm gun, a top speed of 30mph, and relatively thin armor. The Sherman lacked in fire power but it made up for this in shear numbers. Tank development occured very quickly in World War 2. The tank advanced a great deal in World War 2(Cooper, C). The tank would continue to advance and improve all the way up to the modern day(“Top 10 Most Advanced Main Battle Tanks In The World”).
Tanks have continued to evolve and improve all the way up to the modern day.”Advanced armor, high-tech sensors and communication equipment, improved engines and cutting edge weaponry all make this piece of military equipment one of the most sophisticated on the battlefield”(“Top 10 Most Advanced Main Battle Tanks In The World”). Tanks are still an important part of militaries across the world even to this day. One tank used today is the U.S. M1A2. It has 120mm main gun that can fire explosive or advanced armor piercing rounds. The M1A2 also has armor that is very complex and hard to
