Behaviour Modification Research Paper

1055 Words5 Pages

The topic I would like to research is: The psychological impact of behavior modification. The main question I hope to answer in my research is: “Does psychological factors affect the acceptance or denial of behavior modification?”
1. How is behaviour modification done?
2. How does human behaviour affect society?
3. Who created the behaviour modification theory?
4. Can adults and children both use behaviour modification?
5. What are the effects of behaviour modification on an individual?

Positive reinforcement and negative reinforcement are methods used for behaviour modification.
Positive reinforcement is …show more content…

There are two main methods used in behavior modification. Positive reinforcement refers to being rewarded when achieving the desired outcome. While, negative reinforcement results in being punished for not gaining the desired outcome. Another method used for behaviour modification is the ‘ignore negative behaviour’ method. This method is used for groups and individuals as well. The ‘ignore negative behaviour’ method is when you ignore a group or an individual indulging in negative behaviour. This results in them seeing that no action is being taken which further results in them conforming and following the norms of the society.

Our behaviour takes a big part in shaping the society. If we indulge in negative behaviours children watching us will follow our footsteps resulting in a negative society.
If we behave in a positive manner we can help create a better society free of crime and high death rates.
Our behaviour affects the coming generations and shapes how they will behave as well.
People in the society most likely follow what the people before them had done, or what they believed in.

Skinner invented the behaviour modification theory.
He created the operant conditioning theory which is now known as the behaviour modification theory.
His theory states that behaviour can be controlled through reinforcements and consequences.
The main point of this theory is to get people to follow good behaviours and to change their negative behaviour as well. His main belief was that behaviour can be controlled using rewards and punishments.
Analysis and Summary:
This information answers my third research question. B.F. Skinner created the operant conditioning theory which is now known as the behaviour modification theory. This theory goes to show that an individuals behaviour can be controlled by using reinforcements and consequences. For example, if you achieve the desired outcome you receive a reward whilst if you do the opposite you receive a punishment. This theory helps to push people to do more good than bad. Therefore, B.F. Skinner’s theory helps to promote positive activity, and he does this by establishing consequences and reinforcements.
