This Great Asylum we call America When people ask the question what is an America, an individual can come up with many more questions such as; Is being an American enjoying more security, freedom, and liberty than any other nation in the world? Or is being an American because you have the opportunity to become whatever you desire, and being able to choose your future, whether you are successful or not? Finally, maybe being an American is just having the freedom to do what you want and say what you want. With this being said, this is just a few of the entitlements we as Americans have, and it didn’t come easy. During the time when the first Europeans migrated from Asia, over the land bridge that connected Siberia and Alaska, there were already many people occupying the Americas. These individuals where hunters and gathers and learned to survive by planting crops, fishing and trading. Most moved southward toward Mexico, while others pushed eastward, across the Rockies and into the Mississippi Valley and eastern woodlands, were they settled into different colonies. From the Dutch, onto the Spanish, who arrived here looking for gold and silver, to the French who focused on tapping into the fur trade and whatever else they could trade with the Indians and finally the English who looked upon settling the territory.
