The debate of whether marijuana should be legal or illegal is still alive and well. Marijuana is a natural occurring plant that is use for medical purpose or recreational purposes. Marijuana has been legal in California since the late 1990s. Since then, states have been falling in line of California and has legalized marijuana. There is a lot of information about marijuana and its effects. This essay will inform you of what marijuana is, when it became illegal, a few legalized states and benefits of the plant.

THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) is the active ingredient in marijuana that releases THC molecules, when ingested, throughout the body (2015). When it reaches the brain, it gives the feeling of happiness and relaxation to the user. Laziness, drowsiness, and dry mouth are some of the other side effects of marijuana. When marijuana is abused, the user can be experience numbness throughout the body, the inability of using motor skills properly, and other effects depending on who consumed it and how much was consumed. Although marijuana is widely known for a recreational drug, it is also used for medical purposes to read many illnesses such as cancer, epilepsy, glaucoma, and so on. For example, a few studies have found that inhaled marijuana can be helpful in treating nausea and vomiting from cancer chemotherapy according to the American Cancer Society (2015). There are studies happening throughout the United States it discover the benefits of marijuana in the medical world.
