Bill Gates changed the world through technological innovation, ambitious business strategy, and by charities. He has donated approximately 28 billion and continues to donate to charities. He dropped out of Harvard and built the world’s largest software business, known as Microsoft. More than 90 percent of computers we use today use Windows Operating System, which was made by Microsoft (BBC). Like almost every successful entrepreneur in the world Bill Gates encountered complications, but never gave up. Bill Gates inspires me to never give up and chase my dreams. In 1795 Gates contacted MITS, the maker of the world’s first personal computer, and offered to develop software for them. MITS eventually accepted and bought his language for $3,000 plus royalties. Gates started working for Microsoft and later wrote an open letter to computer hobbyists, condemning the early adopters for sharing, rather than paying for, software. In 1798 Microsoft’s profit for the year exceeded $1 million. This great outcome gave Gates a great reputation. His best friend Allen had to leave Microsoft due to Hodgkin’s disease. In 1987 at age 31, Gates became the youngest billionaire ever. At a Microsoft event in New York he met his current wife Linda. In 1889 he found Corbis, an archive of art and photography from public and private collections. In 1994 he got married to Linda and they currently have three kids. At age 39 Gates was worth $12.9 billion, at the time he was considered the world’s richest man. That summer he introduced Internet Explorer, and wrote the book “The Road Ahead”. It was known as the antitrust case in which twenty state attorneys generals and the District of Columbia filed a similar action. Later, in October the DOJ also sued Microsoft for violating a 1994 consent decree, by forcing computer makers to include its Internet browser as a part of the installation of Windows software (Kreit and Wanke). These lawsuits were a definite setback, but Gates pushed through. In 1999 he published another book titled “The Speed of Thought”. Later a movie about him came out; it was named “Pirates of Silicon Valley”. It was about the emergence of Apple and Micrsosoft. In 2000 Gates decided to step down from CEO of Microsoft and became chief software architect. Later that year MGM released the movie Antitrust which was centered on Microsoft and Bill Gates. In 2005 Queen Elizabeth II bestowed an honorary knighthood on Gates for his contributions to the United Kingdom. Time magazine also recognized his good deeds and called him the Good Samaritan with the
