In our day and age, one of the most important assets to our culture is transportation. According to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, air transportation makes up almost 4% of freight transportation and 6.4% of passenger transportation. While this may not sound like a whole lot, this is based on over forty-billion dollars and three-and-a-half-trillion miles annually. According to Statistia, the aircraft manufacturer with the highest worldwide revenue was the Fortune 500 twenty-fourth ranked Boeing Corporation. The company moved from their previous location, in Seattle, in 2001 because of many reasons. Chicago is a more centralized location, in relation to the entire continent. They have better access to the eastern coasts of their home continent than in their previous location. Also, according to The New York Times, the Fortune 500 company was granted an excess of $60-million in incentives and tax-breaks. "The move from Seattle is part of a Boeing effort to transform itself into a more diversified company and separate its corporate offices from any one division" (Barboza, 2001). With the main U.S. manufacturing and testing facility located in Seattle, the company would now be able to reduce favoritism to that branch.
