In the essay “Action Hero” by Rulon Openshaw, a man gets shot by a thief who’s carrying a gun. The man portrayed as a hero by his friends did not do anything heroic. The only reason the man was portrayed as a hero is because of “fracture” he received on his leg by getting shot by the mugger. The man’s “popularity soared” and he is getting portrayed as a hero. Being selfish the man did not try to change his friend's point of view.

Heracles, also known as Hercules in Roman mythology, is one of the most famous heroes in Greek mythology. He is renowned for his strength and courage, and his hero journey is a classic example of the hero's journey archetype. Stephan Fry's version of the myth provides a unique perspective on Heracles' journey, which can be divided into three parts: departure, initiation, and return. The departure stage of Heracles' journey is marked by his exile from Thebes, the city where he was born. As Fry explains, this was the result of a tragic mistake he made, killing his own wife and children in a fit of madness.

A hero to me is someone who saves people and who really, deeply cares.” Heroes are relevant to everyone, because at some point, everyone has had a hero. Sadly, today’s society degrades the meaning of the word “hero”. Heroes are an important aspect of life, but famous people are not always heroes.

“Heroes arrive when we need them the most. They define us and point us in a direction. To turn our sights at this moment toward an idea”(Granger). In David Granger’s article, “Boy, Do We Need a Hero,” Granger repeatedly asserts the important influence heroes have on our society. In a Socratic Seminar with my peers, we discussed that the definition of a hero is someone who is flawed, relatable, and reflects values such as bravery and compassion.
The Outsiders The definition of a hero according to Merriam-Webster online dictionary is “a man admired for his achievements and noble qualities”, or “one who shows courage”. My definition of a hero is someone who does good deeds and helps people when they are in need. In The Outsiders Ponyboy, Johnny, and Dally show good deeds and they all help people in need. They all show being a hero in one part of the book and Johnny shows being
During the video "The Hero's Adventure", by Joseph Cambell there are a lot of interesting facts and points of views. One statement particularity caught my attention right off the bat. "Sometimes it seems to me that we ought to feel pity for the hero instead of admiration, So many of them have sacrificed their own needs". I mean think about it, most people grow up with Hero's inside Disney movies and pretend to be the Hero's and mimic the glory of it all. Though it isn't really glorious to be a hero is it?

Critic’s Review The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan follows the story of three newfound demigods on a quest to save the imprisoned goddess, Hera. The novel’s pace was easy to follow and avoided any confusion. The plotline of the story was entertaining and included genres I enjoy, like fantasy, action, and mythology. I recommend this book to fantasy-lovers from fourth grade and above because of the story’s themes and touches to real life. Although individuals may not relate to fighting cyclops and having the burden of the world, The Lost Hero teaches readers about the importance of resilience and teamwork, which is relatable.
Would the statement, all heroes and heroines are originated from the same basis be true? Most likely, ones favorite hero novel would follow the hero’s journey which is the cycle of the hero’s adventure involving different archetypes. A hero novel does not necessarily have to involve supernatural powers and the hero does not necessarily have to save the world; a hero can go through the hero’s journey to save one person or to reveal a hidden truth. If a story follows the hero’s journey, it includes the three categories of the archetypes—character, place, event. Midwinterblood written by Marcus Sedgwick is one example of a novel that fits into the hero’s journey archetype.
