Katniss chooses volunteers for her sister Primrose at the district 12 reaping to participate in a yearly event called The Hunger Games. She is forced to fight against the other tributes chosen from the other districts.
The infamous Hunger Games story created by Suzanne Collins starts off by setting the scene in the post-war nation of Panem, where it consists of the gleaming Capitol, surrounded by the twelve impoverished districts. As punishment for putting the nation through peril, the Capitol orders one boy and one girl aged from 12-18 from each district to be sent into the Hunger Games to fight until only one survivor remains. This story follows a young Katniss Everdeen as she volunteers for tribute to fight in the Games in order to save her sister. After meeting her fellow tribute, Peeta Mellark, in which she has a small, meaningful history with, they travel to the Capitol and train with Haymitch. In the arena, she forms many alliances with other tributes until she is eventually forced to fight Peeta.

I read the book The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. The main character is katniss and peeta, this book is about fighting. So in the beginning of the book katniss and peeta got there names picked, so they had to go on a train and prepare to go into this arena and fight to death. At the end of the book when there was about 6 people left the capital came on to a speaker and said “ this year there can be two winners but you have to be from the same district”. Katniss and peeta are from the same district so they teamed up and eventually everyone dies and they are the only ones left
I recommend the hunger games to children of twelve and up due to the violence described in the book. For a story about 24 teenagers who are killing each other, there is very little gore. Teens are stabbed, shot with arrows, mauled by wild animals, burned, and their heads and necks smashed or broken. The injuries are very realistic including burn blistering, blood poisoning and gangrene but not graphic. There is an alcoholic named Haymitch and if parents do not want to talk about this with their young children they should not allow them to read this book.
To elaborate, Collins’s starts the book off with a captivating display of Katniss’s compassion. During the reaping, a gathering in which one male and female are selected to compete in the Hunger Games, Katniss’s twelve year old sister is called. Though being selected is one of the worst fates

Actually, Katniss is not chosen as tribute but she sacrifices herself as a tribute to replace her sister Prim. The plot also explains love triangle between Katniss, Peeta and Gale. Katniss learns how to be more selfless and not let coming from district 12 define who she is and what she can do. Katniss is a strong, force,and selfless charter who the readers can see a little bit of themselves in her as she develops through the story.
