A Brave New World book journal Chapter 1 The first chapter begins with a scary laboratory tour. The first paragraph seems a bit overwhelming with its use of references to the ”world state”. The Director proceeds to bring the students through the lab, pointing out incubators and other technological machines designed to fertilize and grow human fetuses. This Is a rather weird thing to read about. It kind of reminds me of the book 1984 which I read last year. The whole lab also reminds me of the kind of things you see in horror video games such as resident evil. Chapter 2 The tour shows how the world uses biological science to modify people. The World Controller for Western Europe walked into the room. His name is Mustapha Mond. He also reads books that are not allowed. There is a discussion. Like in the real world. Henry wants to write a sad story. The controller explains that sad stories and old books are not allowed in the Brave new world. The people wouldn’t understand it. Why not? Asked Helmholz. The answer is: You can’t read sad stories in a world where there is no unhappiness. Bernards is upset that the controller wants to send him to an island. He is accusing Helmholz and John. He is so upset that he is taken away. Helmholz chose Iceland. Because cold is good for writing. I would have chosen a warm island. Chapter 16 Chapter 16 begins a long series of discussions between Mustapha Mond and the Savage. A little boring in my opinion. When the Savage asks the Controller why many of the old books like Othello are prohibited he basically says that the people should not read books about thing they can't get. Chapter 17 Bernard says sorry to John for his behavior. John wants to go with Helmholz and Bernard but the Controller says no. The experiment of John the savage in the civilized world must go on. The leaders of this world are so mean and just don't care about
