Starting a family is a dream for most couples. Bringing a newborn baby into the world is one of the most challenging things a person may endure, however probably the most controversial issue new parents encounter come with how they choose to feed their baby. There are many different viewpoints on breastfeeding alone. A majority of those viewpoints involving breastfeeding include whether or not breastfeeding is the best option for not only the child but the family. One viewpoint comes from those that are completely for breastfeeding due to the benefits that come along with it for the mother and baby. There are a large quantity of mothers today that work away from their home. On one hand, working mothers find it hard to even start breastfeeding due to the fact that they know they will be returning to work and will be unable to feed their child. While on the other hand, some working mothers choose to breastfeed their babies when they’re first born and wean them off when it comes time for the mother to return to work. An overall main concern of working mothers is the amount of time they are separated from their baby while at work (Murtagh, 217). Mothers who do not have the luxury or who would rather not stay at home argue that although having the allotted time off after having a baby is great, there should be laws in place for breastfeeding mothers to have allotted time during the work day to be able to continue breastfeeding/pumping while at work (Murtagh, 219).
