Breastfeeding in Public
Breast milk is a pure substance mothers give their babies, while formula is a man made substance constituted from cheap oils. All mammals produce milk for their young, and it happens everyday. No one hears that it is disgusting to see a puppy nursing, but when a human baby nurses, it is considered disgusting. Breastfeeding is a natural part of life. Women should not be shamed for breastfeeding in public because there are double standards, there are laws allowing mothers to breastfeed, and it is beneficial for mother and baby.

“Breastfeeding is convenient and portable” (kwegmann). It is easy for a mother to breastfeed because she does not have to carry around excess weight that bottles would add. “When a mother breastfeeds, she reduces the risk of postpartum depression” (kwegmann). If a woman gets postpartum depression, it can make it difficult to bond with her baby, and there is a greater risk of her getting major depression. “The mother’s risk of breast and ovarian cancer are lowered in breastfeeding mothers” (kwegmann). The risk of breast and ovarian cancer can be lowered if the mother breastfeeds. .It helps the mother to lose pregnancy weight faster” (kwegmann). In society nowadays, people want to be skinny. Pregnancy weight can be hard to get rid of so, breastfeeding can help. “Breastfeeding lowers the risk of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome)” (kwegmann). SIDS can cause devastation throughout the family. When breastfeeding, the risked is lowered. “There is a physical bond that creates a secure relationship” (kwegmann). The physical bond is something special a mother can experience while breastfeeding. “Breastfeeding may protect your baby from obesity” (kwegmann). This is good since a good portion of society is obese and that is not good. “Breastfed children have fewer ear, respiratory, and urinary tract infections and have diarrhea less often” (Wile). This means that fewer medical bills that will need to be paid and less pain you will be in since there is nothing you can do for your baby when they get a infection. “The baby’s intelligence may be boosted when the mother breastfeeds” (kwegmann). With society advancing it may be a good idea that the baby gets smarter. “It also lowers the risk of the baby having asthma and allergies” (kwegmann).
