The controversial topic I chose is, the pros and cons mothers face with breast feeding or bottle feeding their children. I’ve taken a nutrition class in the past, so I have some knowledge on these topic that I acquired while in the class. Mothers get a lot of back lash either if they choose to breast feed or not and then there’s the controversy, should they breast feed in public or not. There is always going to be someone judging even if you’re doing the absolute best thing for your child.

Breast milk contains antibodies which help fight off any bacteria and viruses. Breastfeeding for at least 6 months with no formula included, will be very beneficial to reducing the risk of these health concerns or a child developing asthma to allergies. Breast milk is a mixture of vitamins, protein and fat, which is what a baby needs to grow.
Breast feeding doesn’t just benefit the child it also benefits the mother. It is found that a mother with no history of type 2 diabetes, & each added year she breast fed resulted a 4-12 reduction of the risk of maternal type 2 diabetes. Breastfeeding also results a 21% decreased risk of ovarian cancer. The risk of breast cancer is also reduced by 4.3% for each year a mother breastfeeds.
The cons of breastfeeding, some say it is not beneficial to breastfeed till 6 months because if a child by this time is not being introduced to food, they can develop allergies. Another issue is that a child could develop coeliac disease due to the delay of introduction to
