The Pros and Cons of Breastfeeding Breastfeeding in the modern day is a very controversial subject, and it poses many pros and cons. There is an average of 353,000 babies born each day around the world, all of these babies have to be fed and the mothers decide on whether or not they are breastfed.
There are many women who breastfeed their newborns and do so knowing all of the benefits. “Breast milk is widely acknowledged as the most complete form of nutrition for infants, with a range of benefits for infants' health, growth, immunity and development.”(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2010). Breast milk is a natural nutrient that is supplied by the mother and there is no other supplement that can replace the milk. Studies have demonstrated a number of health benefits that come from breastfeeding such as children being more resistant to disease, the child being less likely to develop diseases later in life …show more content…

“Mothers who breastfeed are less likely to develop osteoporosis later in life, are able to lose weight gained during pregnancy more easily and have a lower risk of breast, uterine and ovarian cancer.”(Natural Resources Defense Council, 2010). Breastfeeding is also an economic advantage because the mother does not have to buy anything to try and substitute her own milk and it is possible that the baby will not have to attend the hospital as much due to the milk helping the baby fight diseases and infections.
