Unit 1 Discussion Post – Biology in My Life Today My children are the most important parts of my life, and their health and development are vital to their survival. It is my responsibility to ensure that those are successful. Children are the product of the reproduction process, and they do not stop development after evicting the mother’s womb. Existing within the womb is only the beginning. Not only does a mother have to make sure she eats and drinks healthy, but she must be sure to exercise, take prenatal vitamins to give the baby what it needs, and make/keep doctor’s appointments. The process of taking care of infants, or children, begins with the reproduction process. A women’s body freeing an ovum (egg) and being fertilized by a male’s spermatozoa (semen). It then moves to the woman’s uterus once it is fertilized and begins the development process. One must maintain themselves in a healthy manner to have a successful pregnancy. In the case of a safe delivery and healthy newborn, a woman must nourish her offspring through her own milk, or formula if she chooses, only hours after birth, though this is more for learning experiences for the baby on how to eat than to provide nutrition. A child must learn to suck so they may eat to keep nourished and hydrated. If one does not learn to eat, they will more easily get sick, lose weight, face the possibility of hospitalization and even death. The nutrition from a mother’s milk is much healthier for a child than formula because it provides the child with antibodies to assist them in fighting off infections within their own
