It has been said, “never be afraid to nurse in public. If people don’t see it, it will never become normalized”, and that’s what people in our society needs to do. People in our society have a problem with seeing mothers breastfeed in public. The law is on the side of a breastfeeding mother when nursing in public (McCall). National government states: “In spite of any other action of providing a law a women may breastfeed her child at any location in a federal property. If the women and her child are otherwise allowed to be present at the location.” (McCall). Breastfeeding in public should be accepted more in society.
First reason, mothers who choose to breastfed in public shouldn’t be shamed by the public because of the public's negative view on the body. Women are sometimes told to cover up, go feed in a bathroom, or go somewhere else to breastfeed (McCall). They may get uncomfortable stares from the uninformed public (McCall). Babies need to feel loved. Both the mother and baby need some bonding time just the two of them. They need to build protection and love for each other. As well as babies need health and breast milk has all the nutrition a baby needs. The benefits of breast milk is good for the nutrition and health of an infant. Breast milk contains antibodies that protect infants from bacteria and viruses (Breastfeeding Tips). Which will help the baby grow strong and healthy.
Opposing viewpoints on breastfeeding in public. Some may say that it can be consider nudity. Breasts are used in sex by most people (Reneau). Some people grew up seeing breast as sexual objects (Reneau). Men seeing women breastfeeding can turn them on (Reneau). I agree that this could be considered nudity but, people need to stop being afraid of seeing mothers breastfeed in public. However people need to understand that breastfeeding has been done for many years and that’s how babies were
