Formula bottles are the trend. Today’s society uses more bottles and formulas instead of breastfeeding. However, it is being questioned whether formulas are really safe for the babies or not. According to Kent, a licensed biomed, “Many studies have shown that feeding infants with infant formula consistently results in worse health outcomes for infants than breastfeeding.” Kent adds that “there are risks of contamination of formula resulting from the fact that it is not a sterile product, risks of manufacturing errors, and risks associated with inappropriate preparation of the formula in the household.” Yet despite these reasons, formulas and bottles are still popular among mothers. Due to this, mothers are often shamed to breastfed in public which often takes toll physically and mentally. Boyer discusses that “discomfort with breastfeeding in public has been identified as a contributing factor in shaping infant feeding choice and the decision to stop breastfeeding in particular.” Mothers are constantly being shamed in public through the use of technology and of course physically and verbally. “Women who breastfeed in public were viewed as unattractive, lazy, bad parents and lacking in self-respect. More specifically, women who breastfed in public were viewed as exhibitionist” (Grant). Breastfeeding mothers are perceived as flashers wanting sexual contact from men. Mothers cannot feed their babies properly because of the complications such as thoughts of being publicly shamed. Because of this, mothers are unable to go to various places and freely provide care for their babies whenever and wherever.
