“The Most Dangerous Game” is a short story from Richard Connell. About a man named Sanger Rainsford, and his adventures on an island. In his adventures, he meets a strange man, lives three days being hunted, and successfully lives. Rainsford was in his thirties and had been hunting all his life, in this short story, Rainsford is the person being hunted. “I must keep my nerve, I must keep my nerve.” He said through tight teeth.” On the first night, of being hunted by the general named Zaroff, Rainsford made a very long trail for Zaroff to follow. Rainsford walked for two whole hours trying to push Zaroff off of his trail. On the second night, Rainsford created a Malay mancatcher, which then caught Zaroff and injured Zaroff’s shoulder. “It was flight now, a desperate, hopeless flight, that carried him on for hours.” Rainsford also found a quicksand pit, and was able to trick Zaroff’s best hound to fall into the quicksand by creating a Burmese tiger pit. On the third night, Ivan, Zaroff’s blind and deaf friend was following Rainsford. Ivan had all of the other hounds that Zaroff had kept at his country house. “But the hope that was Rainsford’s brain when he climbed died, for he saw in the shallow valley that General Zaroff was still on his feet.” The author exclaims here, that Rainsford was being chased by general Zaroff before Ivan got out the hounds and started chasing him.
