Brooklyn walked the halls of Concord High on his first day of school. As he walked into math class, he saw one thing on the board that made him freeze. Quiz today. It was a quiz because the math teacher only wanted to know how much you knew going into math class this year. That’s all that Brooklyn heard. The only thing he was thinking about was lacrosse tryouts after school. When school ended, Brooklyn went out to the lacrosse field where they were holding lacrosse tryouts for the team. The tryouts were a breeze for Brooklyn and he was ready for tomorrow's round of tryouts. When he got to math class the next day, the math teacher handed back the quizzes. Brooklyn looked at his paper and thought he did better than the 50%. After class, the teacher called him over and said,
“I need you to try in this class so you can stay on the lacrosse team.” said the math teacher.
“Okay” replied Brooklyn.

I can help you with any homework, but you need to try Brooklyn.” said the math teacher. Going through Brooklyn head was much more than “okay”. Sports was the only thing he was good at and if that was taken away, then he would be devastated. I don’t like school. I’m bad at school he said to himself. He made a decision in each class to try hard so he could stay on the lacrosse team. Lacrosse tryouts were after school again. Today they were doing agility drills, then a scrimmage. Brooklyn spun past the dummy, juked past the defender and sent a blazing shot past the goalie. Then during the scrimmage, he was tripled teamed by three defenders. He threw a pass behind his back to a cutting attackman who shot and missed. Now that he was free from the triple team he sprinted to the ball. Scooped it, and took off for the goal. Brooklyn planted his left foot hard and stopped that defender in his tracks. Then spun to his right and fired a shot that blew past the goalie and through the net.
