LGBT Bullying in the US

About 86.2 percent of LGBT students reported bullying in America in 2011. The LGBT community refers to the people who are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexial, and Transgender. This community has been under fire since the day it became an official group and long before that. This is mainly because of religion and personal belief. Just because they go against people's belief does not mean that LGBT students should be ridiculed for their life style. Sadly many kids are harassed and bullied by other students. LGBT bullying is common in the United States, a large percentage are affected by bullying, it can cause students to miss school their for having lower grades, and most people tell the victims to fight back, but specialists say that fighting back should not be encouraged. …show more content…

That is over half of the LGBT community. A study from 2011 showed that a large percentage of students are bullied, and a huge majority of them are members of the LGBT community. About 44.1 have been physically harassed in the United States. Many more have missed over a month of school for fear of bullies. That is a lot of people suffering. The amount of students being bullied is enormous and out of hand. It is cruel the amount of people who have to suffer from bullies. Being bullied can cause kids to miss school, therefore getting lower grades. At least 32.7% of kids attending schools in America have missed part of their schooling years for fear of bullies (Adelman and Taylor 2). A large amount of kids, about 60.8%, feel unsafe in their schooling environment which creates a hazardous learning environment.
