Why We Should Be More Lgbt + Characters In Kids Programs

We all heard about the prince falling in love with the princess but what about the prince with a prince or a princess with a princess. In kids programs there has been only a small group of characters part of the LGBT+ community. Therefore there should be more LGBT+ characters in kids programs. Here are three main reasons why this should happen first kids can learn about the different gender identities and sexualities, bullying against the LGBT+ community will occur less and every person should have someone that they can relate to.

When we are young we begin to learn and develop an understanding what life holds. A source that shows us many things for the first times are Tv shows and movies. Many may see these things as entertainment only however they can teach us life lesson in fun interesting ways. This mostly happens since the bullies does not know what being Gay, Bi, Transgender etc is and would just think of it as being weird or different. This mentality would come from what they have learnt from their parents or what other kids say. Until many find out what these identities and sexualities are and how they are totally normal they would use them as insults and throw homophobic slurs since either they don’t what they mean, they wants to fit in or they are insecure about themselves so they pick on others who they can put the attention on. If there were more LGBT characters when they were younger this situation could have been prevented since when we learn something we are little we usually keep this knowledge and may expand on it. So for this and the next generations we should show them that being part of the LGBT+ community is okay and they shouldn’t be embarrassed to embrace their self. We can do this by having different characters being part of this
