Canadian Experience Class

The Canadian Experience Class (CEC) is for temporary foreign workers in Canada seeking permanent residence. These individuals have already lived and worked in Canada and settled into Canadian society and want to relocate to the country permanently.

What are the requirements?

Candidates will be considered eligible to apply if:

• You have worked in Canada full-time for at least one year in the three years before you apply
• Your experience must have proper authorisation
• You meet the required language skills needed to live and work in Canada
• You do not plan to live or work in Quebec, as the province selects its skilled workers

For full-time work, you must work 30 hours per week for 12 months (1 560 hours)
For part-time work, you must work 15 hours per week for 24 months (1 560 hours)
Additionally, you must prove that you have served the duties required for your job. These duties are set out in the lead statement of the occupational description in the NOC. It includes all essential and primary functions needed for your job. Failure to provide proof of this will render your application incomplete, and it will not be accepted.

You may apply for a bridging open work permit if you are eligible, and your current visa is about to expire. This permit allows you to keep working in the country while awaiting the final decision on your permanent residence application.

Educational requirements

There are no educational requirements for Canadian Experience Class. If you wish to earn extra points for your education under Express Entry, you will need to have a Canadian secondary or post-secondary certificate, diploma or degree, or a completed foreign credential equivalent. If you possess the foreign equivalent, you will need an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) report, which must state that your qualification is equal to its Canadian
