Capital Punishment is a consequence that criminals can face for committing illegal acts. It is the only legal execution process that is taken place for the following crimes: kidnapping related to murder, drug related incidents, rape, genocide and homicide. The death row was abolished in 1965 in the UK, however, some countries still continue to keep this in practice, such as China, Iran, North Korea and some states in USA. Examples of execution are the lethal injection and the electric chair. I strongly believe that Capital Punishment is cruel, horrific and a wrong procedure and shouldn’t be reintroduced into the UK. I am going to state my opinion and tell you why the Death Penalty is an absurd and illogical system.

Although some people might say that Capital Punishment is good for the protection of society, there have been incidents where innocent people have been mistakenly convicted and executed. This proves the point that Capital Punishment is an inhumane and barbaric process that can still be unsafe. Since the reinstatement of the Death Penalty, more than 150 men and women have been released nationally, meaning that there are big chances that uninvolved suspects of various crimes can be wrongly killed due to the fact that the police can have wrong judgements. In July 1998 Derek William Bentley had been granted a pardon after have being put to death. He was hanged at the age of 19 (had the mental age of 11) for a murder committed by a 16 year old friend, Christopher Craig. Craig murdered a policeman but just before he got shot, Bentley shouted, “Let him have it, Chris”. As Chris was too young to serve a real prison sentence, Derek received a more severe sentence. There was a confusion of what Derek Bentley expressed with these word. Alternatively he could have meant for Chris to give the gun the police officer. This demonstrates the fact that because of the Death Penalty, people who are not guilty can still be put to
