Hi Solomon, In reading your post and the readings for this lesson, I share with you the frustration in realizing the obstacles that Native Americans have been, and still are, facing regarding the court cases. To understand something is so sacred to them, yet the courts don’t even make the effort to hear them out, is quite heartbreaking. Interesting note about the 2009 example you mentioned where the Supreme Court didn’t even hear the case proposed by the Navajo nation. It’s less than 10 years ago, and yet it seems something that could be from a long long time ago since we’ve evolved as a government society.
Another illness that is mentioned in the book is diabetes. As Dr. Moalem describes it, “In diabetics, the process through which insulin helps the body use glucose is broken, and the sugar in the blood builds up to dangerously high levels.” The body either fails to produce enough insulin, or the body tissues become resistant to insulin, leading to high levels of glucose in the blood. The elevated levels of glucose build up in certain organs and the high glucose concentration in these organs can lead to serious complications, such as blindness, heart disease, stroke, vascular disease, nerve damage, and kidney damage. Services implemented were color code, Bridge assessment, counseling, parenting sessions, and a mental health assessment. Hi Mahealani, Its good to learn, that the Presbyterian Church USA, approved same sex marriage. Its interesting that the Supreme Court ruling legalized same sex marriage in the United States, but questions are being raised how the decision will affect religious groups. Especially, those that remains opposed to allowing gay and lesbian couples to wed. Basically the court’s decision states that clergy and religious organizations are not obligated to perform same sex marriages. I hope in the future that more religions become more accepting for to all people that want to be married. Thanks for sharing a great post.
Hi Jeromith, I have to say that I tend to jump to conclusions by recalling outcomes to previous situations. Intuitive decision-making is useful as a manager for repetitive decisions unrelated to people. Although aware of the faults related to the bias it is difficult to overcome ones nature of to jump to conclusions and fill in the gaps. Particularly when dealing with an employee that tends to be negative or is often the focus of conflict.
With type 1 diabetes checking blood sugar and giving insulin injections is going to become a part of the patient’s daily routine so it is imperative that they properly know how to do this. Side effects are always a big concern when giving medication and it is important that the patient knows what is expected and what is not expected from a medication so that they can come in to see a doctor is any adverse symptoms arise with taking the Insulin for type diabetes or Bactrim for urinary tract infection. It is also important that the patient knows what foods are going to help or hurt them with type 1 diabetes.
