Mission Statement for West TN Healthcare “To improve the health and well-being of the communities we serve while providing exceptional and compassionate care” (WTH.org, n.d.). The purpose of the mission statement is to declare what goods or services a company or organization intends to provide (Kinicki & Williams, 2016). Based upon this premise, the mission statement for West TN Healthcare shows that the organization intends to provide health care that is both exceptional and compassionate and that by doing so its purpose is to improve the health and well-being of the communities surrounding it (WTH.org, n.d.). West TN Healthcare’s mission statement does meet the criteria set forth as a viable mission statement.
Background statement: Heritage Valley Medical Center has had a wonderful reputation for providing excellent health care services to their community. Initially, their community was 80% Caucasian, 40% African American, and 5% Hispanic. However, in the last 5 years, the population has changed to more minorities and the whites have moved out to the suburbs. This caused the Center’s occupancy rate to go down 40% because many of their traditional, more affluent, private-pay patients had left the neighborhood. To bring in revenue, they campaigned to bring in more Medicaid patients.
Part of their mission statement is “to make healthcare easier, so that life can be better” (Banner Health, 2018). This is part of their core foundation to be able to do the best job possible for the patient. They have realized without patients, their future in providing healthcare would not exist. Banner uses a Community Health Needs Assessment to help keep track of the patient’s satisfaction. Each facility has four goals that they are to follow.
Sun Country Health Region prides themselves on their vision, mission, and goals. Their mission states that “Sun Country Health Region Authority works together with individuals and communities in partnership to achieve the best possible care, experience and health” (Sun Country Health Region Website). Growing up, I have had my fair share of medical encounters, and was even on state insurance for most of my life. Professional Conference Due to my financial hardships, I was unable to attend any of the famous Mississippi conferences for the Social Work Association. However, I was able to attend a conference in Birmingham, Alabama. The Arise Conference that I attended focused was a one-day conference that started around eight o’clock in the morning until three in the afternoon.
